Discover our simple recipe and our tips for making it a success every time.

Which Milk Should You Choose for a Matcha Latte?

The milk you use plays a key role in the taste and texture of your matcha latte. Here are some options and their characteristics:

Animal Milk

  • Whole cow's milk : Provides a creamy texture and richness that blends perfectly with the vegetal notes of matcha.
  • Semi-skimmed milk : A lighter alternative for a less rich but equally tasty latte.

Vegetable Milk

  • Oat milk : The best choice for a plant-based matcha latte. Its natural sweetness and slightly creamy texture perfectly balance the taste of matcha.
  • Almond Milk : Offers a slightly sweet flavor and a subtle nutty note, ideal for lovers of gourmet drinks.
  • Coconut Milk : Adds an exotic touch, perfect for a richer, more flavorful latte.
  • Soy milk : A plant-based classic, with a velvety texture that highlights the flavor of matcha.

Our tip : If you're looking for a rounded, balanced taste, oat milk or whole cow's milk are the best choices for enjoying your matcha latte.

The Classic Matcha Latte Recipe

Ingredients :

  • 1 heaped teaspoon of Noen Matcha premium matcha (approx. 2g)
  • 45 ml of hot water (70-80°C)
  • 150 ml of milk (animal or vegetable, according to your preferences)
  • 1 teaspoon of sweetener (optional: honey, maple syrup, or coconut sugar)

Preparation Steps:

  1. Sift the matcha : Sift the matcha into a bowl or cup to avoid lumps.
  2. Add the hot water : Pour 45 ml of 70-80°C water over the matcha. Mix with a chasen (bamboo whisk) or an electric frother until you get a light, even foam.
  3. Heat the milk : Heat 150 ml of milk (animal or plant-based) over low heat. If you want a frothy texture, use a milk frother.
  4. Assemble : Pour the hot milk over the prepared matcha. If your milk is frothy, save the froth to place on top.
  5. Adjust to your taste : You can adjust the amount of matcha to make your drink stronger or weaker. For example, add 1/2 extra spoonful if you prefer a stronger taste.
  6. Customize : Add sweetener if desired, and sprinkle a pinch of matcha for an aesthetic finish.

Iced Variation: Iced Matcha Latte

For a refreshing version:

  1. Prepare matcha with cold water instead of hot water.
  2. Fill a glass with ice cubes.
  3. Pour in the cold milk and matcha, mix gently, and enjoy.
